Casper Corbitt
As soft as a gentle breeze that rustles falling leaves, death stole into the Richland memorial Hospital on Saturday, March 3, 1990 at 3:05 PM and whispered “Casper me friend, it’s time to go home.”
On May 9, 1912 in Aiken County, Casper Corbitt was born to Mrs. Lillie Schofield Corbitt and the Deacon Gus L. Corbitt.
He joined Oakey Spring Baptist Church at an early age and remained there until death.
While married to the late Ruth James Corbitt, ten children were born through this union.
He leaves to mourn his cherished memories: a mother, Mrs. Lillie E. Corbitt of Columbia, South Carolina; sons and daughters-in-law, Mr. Eddie Clyde and Mrs. DeLois Corbitt of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Mr. William L. and Mrs. Jacqueline Corbitt of Springfield, Massachusetts, Mr. Casper Corbitt Jr. of Columbia, South Carolina, Mr. J. D. Leysath of New York, New York, Mr. Michael Corbitt, Mr. Stanley Corbitt of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Jackie Edwards of Springfield, South Carolina; daughters and son-in-law, Mrs. Evelyn and Mr. Robert Ferguson, Mrs. Madeline J. Young, Mrs. Billie J. Fisher all of Columbia, South Carolina, Mrs. Rose and Mr. Charles Graddick of Gary, Indiana and Mrs. Betty Mitchell of Atlanta, Georgia; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mrs. Gwendolyn Stephens, Mrs. Zenobia Roberts of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Leomia and Mr. Arthur Johnson of East Orange, New Jersey, Mrs. Asenath E. and Reverend Asia Ferguson of Columbia, South Carolina; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mr. Levi and Mrs. Vasteen Corbitt of North, South Carolina, Mr. Wyman and Mrs. Maggie Corbitt of Springfield, South Carolina, Mrs. Ethel Corbitt of Washington, D.C., Mrs. Rosetta Corbitt of Portsmouth, Ohio, Mrs. Josephine Corbitt of East Orange, New Jersey, and Mrs. Mary Corbitt of Columbia, South Carolina; also mourning his passing are thirty grandchildren; thirty-five great grands; nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and sorrowing friends.
