ETHOLYN CORBETT

ETHOLYN CORBITT

(Aug 23, 1933 – April, 1993)

Etholyn Corbitt was born on August 23, 1933 in Orangeburg, South Carolina, the oldest child of Gwendolyn Stevens.

He attended church in his earlier years at Oakey Spring Baptist Church in Orangeburg, S.C. and was educated in the public schools there.

He moved to Philadelphia, P.A. at the age of sixteen.

He served his country as an M.P. in the Army in Korea.  He was honorably discharged in 1955.

He worked in the garment industry as a presser for a number of years.

Etholyn married Alice English and from that union were born a son, Gregory, and two daughters, Yolanda and Wanda.

He entered into business for himself when he purchased a delicatessen in West Oak Line in 1964.

Etholyn had a strong work ethic.  He spent his entire life working very hard to provide for his family.

He loved people.  He thought that one of the greatest things about spending so much of his time working in the store was meeting people.  He was a very warm and compassionate man.  He had a great respect for the individual and was always there to help anyone in need.

Etholyn was a man of many talents.  He always made Sunday dinners very special by baking one of his favorite cakes. He also had a gift for gardening.  He provided family and friends with fresh vegetables from his garden for many years.

He also was a devotee of many kinds of music.  He loved playing the piano.  His love for music led him to the Settlement School in Germantown to study piano with professional musicians.  He successfully completed a course of study and was awarded a certificate.

Etholyn leaves to rejoice in his memory: wife, Alice; son, Gregory; daughters, Yolanda and Wanda; mother, Gwendolyn; brother, Charles Henry; grandmother, Lillie; daughter-in-law, Chevelle; three grandchildren, Cheri, Andre, and Lamont; three aunts; two uncles; three nieces; three nephews; and many other relatives and loving friends.
