WYMAN CORBITT

WYMAN CORBITT
Wyman Monroe Corbitt, born to Gussie Lowman and Lillie Elizabeth Corbitt on June 12, 1930 in the Sawyerdale Community of North SC. The eighth born of the boys and the 13th born of 14 children places him as the baby boy.
Wyman was raised in the church and joined Oakey Spring Missionary Baptist church at an early age. He faithfully attended church, sang solos and sang notes on the Sunday School Choir. He joined the Usher Board at Oakey Spring where he now serves as an Honorary Member. He loves attending church and going to all revivals at the surrounding churches. He would faithfully attend Vacation Bible Study along with his wife. Wyman has been noted as the oldest male member in Oakey Spring today. Wyman was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Springfield SC, a District 96 member and a former NAACP member.
Wyman attended the Antioch Baptist Church School where he completed the 6th grade and played basketball many days. Walking to school through a path was the means to get to school during those days.
Wyman grew up on the farm, and later married the late Maggie Mae Isaac. They were married on January 28, 1950. To their union seven children were born; two boys passed away shortly after birth. Living now are Charlese Lavern, Ervin Eugene, Eva Ann, Betty Gail and Polly Elizabeth to complete the birth of his immediate family circle.
Wyman worked on the farm, work in Philadelphia as a land scapist, then returned and home to work at the Mill in Springfield SC until he was laid off. He then applied at Argroe Screen Company and worked there until his retirement in the 90’s. Wyman traveled often visiting family out of state when necessary.
Even though he only had a 6th grade education he read well, could spell, and worked math as if he had a 12th grade education. Wyman loved his family and would help them when he could. He would play basketball and baseball with the grands making sure that they got up to go to school every morning and walk them to the bus stop. Wyman enjoyed singing with Maggie at the kitchen table as he would belt out that melodious bass voice in song. He would read the Sunday School lesson aloud as he and Maggie studied together.
Wyman is a mild-mannered man who never say too much, but is “sharp as a tack” in his thinking and speaking. Whatever Wyman was asked to do in the church, community, with family and friends, he was always willing and would say, “I speck so.”
Lastly, Wyman’s testimony is, “THE LORD HAS BLESSED ME.”
